As many of you know, from June 14-July 20 I will be in the Dominican Republic (D.R.), working as a summer intern for kidsalive International, a Christian ministry dedicated to holistically caring for orphaned and underprivileged children. If you'd like more information on this ministry click the "kidsalive International" link at the bottom of my blog.
fun fact: The Dominican Republic is just one of sixteen countries where kidsalive reaches out to children in need.
While in the D.R., I will be working with 3 other Wheaton students (Charity, Grace, and Katie). Our team of four will be teaching and loving children at Park Care Center, a kidsalive ministry site located in Caraballo, a town on the northern coast.
Even though I'm not leaving for two weeks, I would greatly appreciate your prayers
as I prepare for my trip.
Here are a few things you can be praying about:
1. Travel, Health & Safety (especially that my malaria pills work)
2. Team unity - I will be working with 3 other girls from Wheaton, as well as six other interns we will meet up with when we arrive. They will not be at the same site as we will but we will do orientation together.
3. Communication (in Spanish) - Of my team, I am the one with the most Spanish knowledge, however, I still feel very incompetent at speaking it.
4. Being flexible and open-minded - Park Care Center is a relatively new site. I know I'll need to be flexible.
5. The Dominicans & Haitians (teachers and children) we will be working and living with
6. Energy - Little kids are great but spending all day with them for five weeks will probably get tiring.
7. My walk w/ God - As the oldest on my team and as someone the children will look up to, I want to be a good example.
Thank you for taking the time to read this and for your faithfulness in prayer!
To God be the glory :)
